Travel often causes imbalances with your routine – eating and drinking more than normal, skipping training sessions at the gym, etc. Which is ok, and part of life! The key is to make solid choices before, during and after that support your goals and enjoying your adventures.

One of the best ways to prepare is to make sure you’re getting enough protein in your diet to power through those on-the-go days. We know how crucial protein is for our energy levels, satiety, and overall health (check out last week’s blog post if you missed it!) but finding convenient ways to incorporate it can be a real challenge when the summer fun is in full swing. But worry not! I’ve got you covered with a few super easy and practical tips I personally use to keep my protein game strong while soaking in the summer vibes.

Let’s face it: snacking is a given during summer escapades. Instead of reaching for those typical processed munchies, be prepared with protein-rich alternatives. Toss in some high quality protein bars, jerky, roasted chickpeas, or a mix of nuts into your backpack. These handy snacks not only satisfy your protein needs but also give you a healthy dose of nutrients and good fats to keep you fueled and ready for all the adventures.

You can also consider items like hard-boiled eggs, cheese sticks, Greek yogurt cups, or single-serve cottage cheese. These options are not only convenient but also provide a significant amount of essential nutrients, making them the perfect fuel. 

And don’t forget about canned proteins. Quality canned proteins, such as tuna, salmon, or sardines, offer a convenient solution for quick and easy protein-rich meals while on the move. I recommend opting for quality whey protein powders with minimal ingredients and blend with your favorite fruits, veggies, nut butters and a splash of almond milk or coconut water. Voila! You’ve got yourself a delicious, hydrating, and protein-rich treat to keep you going strong throughout your time away. Just be sure to keep the fruit to a a half cup or less to avoid a blood sugar spike and crash. I love making a big smoothing in the morning and drinking it in the car ride on our way to a hike, or making a few ahead of time and placing them in the freezer to have on hand for camping or road trips.

Greek yogurt is a summer go-to when it comes to getting your protein fix on the move. Its creamy texture and high protein content make it an ideal grab-and-go snack. Choose the plain flavor to keep the sugar content low and bring along a variety of tasty toppings like fresh berries, homemade granola, or a drizzle of honey. You can even freeze Greek yogurt cups for an extra cool and satisfying protein-packed delight.
